Established in 1984, CAREGIVERS Volunteers
Assisting the Elderly addresses the plight of frail, homebound seniors
in our community by providing non-professional in-home assistance,
transportation to medical appointments and grocery shopping; help
with light household tasks and companionship, totally free of charge.
In
2002, CAREGIVERS implemented the "Building Bridges" Intergenerational
Youth Program, which brings local area high school students into the homes
of the frail elderly to help with heavier household tasks and yard
work.
Last
year, CAREGIVERS provided 48,000 hours of free service and donated
83,000 miles of transportation for 342 homebound seniors.
CAREGIVERS is a 501(c) (3) non-profit interfaith organization, established
in Ventura in 1984. It is supported by the generosity of individuals,
United Way,
foundation grants, corporations, churches and civic organizations.
